Episode description
Football season and truck drivers are a combination that was always going to make for a great episode, and Episode 31 of Always Pneumatic, Never Static does not disappoint. Host Marcus brings drivers Mike Short, Gary Cress, and Jeff Linne together for a football conversation that runs from start to finish with zero agenda and maximum passion. Plant your flag predictions. Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, Cincinnati Bengals, Pittsburgh Steelers, the CFP National Championship, and everything in between get covered from three very different fan perspectives that do not always agree and are not shy about it. Rival matchups, rule changes each driver would make if they had the power, and the kind of trash talk that only comes out when you put football fans in a room with a live microphone and tell them to go. This is the episode Marcus teased back in Episode 28, and it was worth the wait. If you bleed your team's colors and you have a take you need the world to hear, Episode 31 is your people. New episodes every Wednesday at podcast.bulktransit.com.
This week on Always Pneumatic, Never Static, host Marcus does something he has been looking forward to since Episode 28. The football episode. Gary Cress, Jeff Linne, and Mike Short join the show for a roundtable that starts with trash talk and never really stops. Plant your flag predictions for college and pro teams, a rival ride along challenge that produced one of the most entertaining exchanges of the season, and a rule change conversation with absolutely no guardrails. Marcus warned them. They came anyway. Nobody left disappointed.
Episode Highlights
Birthday buddies and birthday shots: Marcus and Mike Short share a birthday on September 6th. Mike texted Marcus a happy early birthday the day before recording. Marcus did not ask Mike to sing. Mike offered. Marcus declined on behalf of the listeners. The Steelers hoodie Mike was wearing came up approximately thirty seconds into the recording and the trash talk started from there.
Plant Your Flag predictions, the full scoreboard:
Gary Cress planted his flag on Ohio State winning the CFP National Championship and backed it up with specifics about the roster and the schedule including a very pointed message about Oregon coming to Columbus in the regular season. Marcus called it stomping a mud hole in the Ducks. Gary did not disagree.
Jeff Linne also planted his flag on Ohio State for the national title. Two Buckeye predictions in a row before Marcus even had a chance to respond. Marcus noted that statistically one of them would be wrong about which Ohio State season this would be.
Mike Short went pro and planted his flag on the Cincinnati Bengals reaching the Super Bowl against the LA Rams. Marcus could support the Bengals part. The LA Rams prediction he described as something he could not wrap his head around and suggested the NFC West representative would more likely be his San Francisco 49ers.
Marcus planted his flag on the Oregon Ducks winning the national championship and Dante Moore winning the Heisman Trophy. He made the case for Oregon's defensive line returning four projected day one and day two draft picks who chose to stay in Eugene. Gary heard the argument and respectfully declined to change his prediction.
Marcus also predicted his 49ers would reach the NFC Championship game after completing what he called the blood ritual sacrifice of the 2025 offseason. Kyle Shanahan in a head on collision. Jed York making headlines in Pennsylvania. Marcus described this as the football gods demanding payment and said John Lynch completing the cycle was all that was left.
The rival ride along challenge: Marcus gave each driver a trucking spin on the classic jersey swap question. If you had to spend a full day's route in your cab with one player or coach from your biggest rival team, who would you pick and why?
Mike Short chose Tom Brady. As a Bengals fan he would not touch Brady with a ten foot pole but as a Buckeye he could just barely stomach a Michigan man if that Michigan man happened to win seven Super Bowls. He acknowledged Brady might be responsible for the downfall of football through the rules enacted around him but gave him the respect the resume demands.
Jeff Linne chose two. For college he picked Jim Harbaugh because he wanted to understand how Harbaugh sees a football field and designs schemes. For pro he chose Ben Roethlisberger from a place of genuine regional respect. Big Ben grew up in Findlay, Ohio, played for the Trojans in high school, went to University of Miami Ohio, and was drafted 23rd overall by Pittsburgh. Jeff noted that Roethlisberger is eligible for the Hall of Fame this year and will get in. Marcus added that Jeff should make sure Big Ben has three points of contact getting in and out of the truck.
Gary Cress went with Marshawn Lynch. Gary wanted someone who was just going to sit in the passenger seat and not say anything. Marcus confirmed that was actually Marshawn Lynch's entire approach to most situations and called it a genius pick. Marcus also selected Lynch for himself because he wanted the same thing plus the entertainment value of riding I-5 through the Northwest with Beast Mode.
The rule changes, and nobody agreed with the current rules:
Marcus went first and picked roughing the passer. He wants inadvertent hand to the face calls reduced to five yards with no automatic first down. He described watching a defender graze Patrick Mahomes' helmet and gift the Chiefs fifteen yards and an automatic first down as bush league and soft. He is still angry about it.
Mike Short picked the same general area but from a different angle. He wants quarterbacks to be allowed to get hit again. He described watching Joe Burrow fall down without being touched so Myles Garrett could get a sack record as the kind of thing that makes the sport look bad. He misses the era when Boomer Esiason stood in the pocket and took what was coming.
Jeff Linne targeted the rule that requires defenders to roll off a quarterback after a tackle. He finds it unnatural and borderline impossible to execute at game speed and described several quarterbacks who have said themselves that they need contact to feel like they are in the game. He suggested they are essentially turning football into a form of flag football at the quarterback position and nobody asked for that.
Tom Brady got run in this episode: Marcus summarized the post-conversation commentary by noting that Tom Brady got mentioned more in this episode than anyone and almost none of it was positive. He still gave him the respect he deserves as the greatest of all time. That respect just came with a lot of accompanying frustration about what his presence did to the rule book.
The predictions will be revisited: Marcus committed to getting all three drivers back on the show after the season ends to review every plant your flag prediction. He acknowledged that more often than not the flag gets planted and then the season happens and the flag gets knocked over. He is looking forward to finding out which one of them takes the most chin in January.
Hunting and outdoor recreation episode coming: Marcus teased the next culture episode at the close of the show. He is looking for drivers who hunt, fish, camp, hike, forage, or explore. Deer, elk, ducks, geese. He described himself as a fellow outdoor enthusiast and said if you want to talk about it, send him an email at podcast.bulktransit.com.
From The Host
“Football fan or not, this is what this show is supposed to sound like when we are just having fun. Three drivers who came in ready to go, took shots at each other's teams and at mine, made predictions they are going to have to defend in January, and gave me an hour of football conversation that I could listen to every week from now until the Super Bowl. Gary, Jeff, Mike, thank you for playing ball. And I mean that literally and figuratively. We will see you back here when the dust settles. I have a feeling at least one of us is going to owe somebody a very uncomfortable follow-up episode. Go Ducks.” — Marcus Bridges, Host

00:00:06,720 --> 00:00:13,640
Uh oh. I don't know if this music means as much to you as it does to
2
00:00:13,680 --> 00:00:20,480
me, but it's football season. Something about all these
3
00:00:20,480 --> 00:00:27,440
old. NBC and ABC, Fox, CBS, ESPN football songs, football
4
00:00:27,440 --> 00:00:34,120
themes. Just gets my blood pumping. It is football season. Welcome into always pneumatic, never static
5
00:00:34,120 --> 00:00:40,840
episode 31. Thank you all so much for being here today. This one is quite possibly the one that
6
00:00:40,840 --> 00:00:46,839
I get worked up for the most. Uh. It is my favorite time of year. Of course, we'll talk about this a
7
00:00:46,840 --> 00:00:51,879
little bit in the segment coming up when we get some drivers in here to talk football with me. Uh,
8
00:00:51,880 --> 00:00:58,160
but my birthday falls around this time of year. We've got kickoff of the NCAA season bookended by
9
00:00:58,160 --> 00:01:04,750
kickoff of the NFL season. It's finally here. They make us wait so long. All of us die hard
10
00:01:04,750 --> 00:01:09,989
football fans to get football back in our lives. We've spent the last three months of summer
11
00:01:10,029 --> 00:01:15,829
picking apart every storyline that has to do with our teams, talking about injuries and rosters and
12
00:01:15,830 --> 00:01:22,189
depth charts and record predictions and betting odds. And finally, we don't have to talk about any
13
00:01:22,190 --> 00:01:28,230
of that anymore. We can finally talk about the product that our teams are going to put on the
14
00:01:28,230 --> 00:01:34,190
field, whether that be your college team, your pro team. It doesn't matter. All even talk Australian
15
00:01:34,190 --> 00:01:39,309
rules football with you. I don't know anything about it, but it's got a ball shaped, uh, vaguely
16
00:01:39,309 --> 00:01:44,589
shaped like an egg and a bunch of big dudes with big shoulders hitting each other for it. That's
17
00:01:44,629 --> 00:01:51,150
where I'm at here. Okay, big, big football fan. If you guys haven't picked that up yet. Um, uh, not
18
00:01:51,150 --> 00:01:55,710
much of a player. I was a player in high school. I was actually fortunate enough to be elected
19
00:01:55,710 --> 00:02:00,660
captain of my football team. But I wasn't a world beater. I was more of that locker room guy, as you
20
00:02:00,660 --> 00:02:05,739
guys can imagine. Uh, you know, I didn't run my mouth a lot on the field because I'm only five.
21
00:02:05,779 --> 00:02:12,059
Nine. Uh, but I did like to, uh, to try to be the spiritual leader of the football locker room, and
22
00:02:12,059 --> 00:02:16,860
I probably wasn't even that good at that, but that's when I fell in love with it. Okay. Going all
23
00:02:16,860 --> 00:02:21,979
the way back to when I was a kid, following my 40 niners, uh, coming to the University of Oregon and
24
00:02:21,979 --> 00:02:28,899
becoming a diehard ducks fan after experiencing Autzen Stadium. I am a 15 or 16 year
25
00:02:28,940 --> 00:02:35,339
vet of of a season ticket holder at Autzen Stadium. I tailgate for every home game, and then I
26
00:02:35,339 --> 00:02:41,899
spend Sundays on the couch with my guy, Scott Hanson. Seven hours of uninterrupted football on
27
00:02:41,899 --> 00:02:48,820
NFL RedZone. I can't get enough of it. I play fantasy football. I'm playing NCAA football
28
00:02:48,820 --> 00:02:55,779
on my Xbox, I'm playing Madden on my Xbox, you name it. If it's about football, I'm in. Uh, you know,
29
00:02:55,779 --> 00:03:02,009
I'm even. I think this is really cool. There is, uh, basically a website now that
30
00:03:02,009 --> 00:03:07,049
broadcasts high school football games, streams them. Of course, you're not going to get commentary
31
00:03:07,049 --> 00:03:11,570
or anything like that, but if you're like me and you love football so much and Saturday can't get
32
00:03:11,570 --> 00:03:18,209
here quick enough, well, I get to sit down now and watch my alma mater high school, uh, play their
33
00:03:18,210 --> 00:03:23,489
season on Friday nights right here from my studio. It's really cool. And I just can't. I can't put
34
00:03:23,490 --> 00:03:29,329
into words how much I love this time of year. Uh, the seasons changing. It's not so brutally hot
35
00:03:29,369 --> 00:03:34,089
outside, but here in the Pacific Northwest, it ain't winter yet. We have. We got a little bit of
36
00:03:34,089 --> 00:03:39,089
rain this week, but we're going to get sun for when my Oregon Ducks kick off against the Boise
37
00:03:39,089 --> 00:03:44,849
State Broncos. Now, by the time you guys hear this episode, uh, College Week one will be in the books.
38
00:03:44,849 --> 00:03:51,089
But we will be looking forward to NFL's week one. And I'm bringing in some drivers here right now
39
00:03:51,169 --> 00:03:56,719
to talk about their teams. And and we're going to do some fun stuff I don't really want to call
40
00:03:56,720 --> 00:04:02,600
these games, but I'm going to ask these guys, hey, plant your flag. Give me a prediction that you're
41
00:04:02,600 --> 00:04:07,399
going to make about your teams this year that you could come back and defend after the season's
42
00:04:07,399 --> 00:04:14,359
over. Um, I'm going to ask them who, if they had to choose from their rival team, who they
43
00:04:14,360 --> 00:04:19,040
would take a ride along with. And that's an interesting conversation. How about this? I'm going
44
00:04:19,040 --> 00:04:23,919
to ask the drivers about changing some rules. What would you change if they put you in charge of the
45
00:04:23,920 --> 00:04:29,879
NFL for one week, or the or the NCAA for one week? Or hey, maybe you get to change it for both. Maybe
46
00:04:29,880 --> 00:04:35,480
you're just the czar of football and you get to make one big sweeping change. What would you make?
47
00:04:35,559 --> 00:04:41,679
Uh, we'll talk about that and much, much more here in just a moment when I bring my drivers in, uh,
48
00:04:41,680 --> 00:04:47,599
for our football roundtable. And it's a fun one, guys, we got a lot of laughs on this one. Shots get
49
00:04:47,600 --> 00:04:53,559
fired almost immediately. Uh, it's football season. It's exactly how it should be. Real quick, before
50
00:04:53,559 --> 00:04:58,309
we go any further and bring these drivers in here, I want to tell you head on over to the website if
51
00:04:58,309 --> 00:05:03,069
this is the first time you're listening to this because another, uh, Bulk or Spur driver saw you
52
00:05:03,070 --> 00:05:07,910
out in the yard and said, hey, you got to check out the podcast and this is your first episode. That's
53
00:05:07,910 --> 00:05:12,630
awesome. Welcome to the party. We're glad to have you. If you want to get all the rest of the
54
00:05:12,630 --> 00:05:17,510
episodes and catch up, because there's 30 more where this one came from. Head on over to

00:05:45,070 --> 00:05:50,709
enjoyment out of it, pay that thing forward. Tell a friend about it. It really helps us out. We want to

64
00:06:07,859 --> 00:06:14,659
can make it happen. Just drop me a line once again. Podcast dot transit dot. Without
65
00:06:14,659 --> 00:06:21,140
further ado, it's time to bring these guys in here. You think they're ready for it? I don't know, I
66
00:06:21,140 --> 00:06:25,299
mean, I look, they're friendly guys. I've talked to every one of these dudes before, and I don't know
67
00:06:25,299 --> 00:06:31,059
if they're, uh, they're diehard fan enough to really give me the paces that I deserve here. Are
68
00:06:31,059 --> 00:06:36,059
they going to pop me in the mouth about my teams? Because I'm certainly going to be firing shots on
69
00:06:36,060 --> 00:06:39,059
their team. Let's get them in here and find out.
70
00:06:47,739 --> 00:06:53,099
You are listening to Always Pneumatic, Never Static the Totally Pressurized podcast, brought to
71
00:06:53,100 --> 00:06:58,619
you by Bulk Transit, where we keep the lines clear, the tanks empty, and the conversation anything but
72
00:06:58,620 --> 00:07:03,459
dry. Whether you're running powder, pellets or anything in between, pull up a seat, crack the
73
00:07:03,459 --> 00:07:10,379
windows, and let's hit it. You know, these football themed
74
00:07:10,379 --> 00:07:15,060
episodes are always some of my favorites, because if you get the right people that want to come in
75
00:07:15,060 --> 00:07:21,059
here and have a fun conversation and talk about their team and why your team's no good and their
76
00:07:21,059 --> 00:07:27,019
team's the best. What you get when you're me is you get these guys on the phone before we start
77
00:07:27,019 --> 00:07:32,860
recording, and it starts to feel like that scene in a college football tunnel where the coach is
78
00:07:32,860 --> 00:07:37,939
trying to hold them back because they're just all chomping at the bit they want out there. They want
79
00:07:37,940 --> 00:07:42,779
to hit something. And that's what I've got right now. My three drivers waiting in the tunnel right
80
00:07:42,780 --> 00:07:47,939
now, and they are locked and loaded for this episode. I'm very excited for it. So let's welcome
81
00:07:47,939 --> 00:07:53,209
them in here real quick. Joining us first on the show today. We've got Gary Cress on the line. Gary,
82
00:07:53,210 --> 00:07:58,609
thank you so much for being here. You told me you're locked and loaded for this one, man. Oh, yeah.
83
00:07:58,650 --> 00:08:04,969
I'm coming at you. Okay, I like it, I like it. Also joining us today, we've got Jeff Linne back on
84
00:08:04,969 --> 00:08:11,809
the show. Jeff, you ready for this, man? Absolutely. All right. I'm glad you're here. And
85
00:08:11,809 --> 00:08:17,768
also joining us, uh, want to send a special thank you out to Mike short for joining us today. Mike,
86
00:08:17,769 --> 00:08:23,570
welcome to the show, man. Yeah. Thanks, Marcus. Thanks for having me. Now I've got a
87
00:08:24,369 --> 00:08:30,768
hoodie. There we go. That. See, it's already starting. It's already starting. Yeah. That's right. Now. No, no
88
00:08:31,049 --> 00:08:36,489
donation is on the in the valley of wrong. If you want to be on the mountain of right, you got to be
89
00:08:36,489 --> 00:08:42,049
cheering for the black and yellow. Oh man. Oh my goodness a Steelers fan. You see what I've. It's
90
00:08:42,049 --> 00:08:48,089
already started. It's already started. It's gotta be it's gotta be bandwagon. It's not real.
91
00:08:49,200 --> 00:08:55,159
Now. Uh, Mike, real quick here, before we get going, I gotta extend a special thank you to you. You
92
00:08:55,159 --> 00:08:59,959
texted me yesterday and told me happy early birthday, which I really appreciate it. We're
93
00:08:59,960 --> 00:09:06,559
recording this on September the 3rd, and, uh, my birthday is coming up on Sunday the sixth.
94
00:09:06,560 --> 00:09:11,959
And, uh, happy birthday to you as well, Mike, because you and I share a birthday. We're birthday buddies
95
00:09:11,960 --> 00:09:18,159
out here, man. Yay! You want me to sing to you? You don't have to sing to me, man. I, I I will, I will
96
00:09:18,159 --> 00:09:22,639
forgive you that. And I will not sing for you either, because I want people to keep listening to
97
00:09:22,640 --> 00:09:29,559
this podcast. Okay? That's where I was going. I agree with you. You know, I will ask
98
00:09:29,560 --> 00:09:34,799
you. Happy early birthday. You too buddy, you too. And thank you for that. I will ask you right now,
99
00:09:35,280 --> 00:09:40,960
is there any better time to have a birthday as a football fan than the first week of September? You
100
00:09:40,960 --> 00:09:47,319
got Labor Day, you get a three day weekend. Uh, you get football kicking off all around you. I mean, I
101
00:09:47,320 --> 00:09:51,549
love this type of year. Mike. I don't know about you. I feel selfish sometimes because of how much
102
00:09:51,550 --> 00:09:56,389
I love this time of year, but I haven't even been thinking about my birthday. I'm thinking about
103
00:09:56,389 --> 00:10:03,030
Saturday because that's when the ducks kick off. You mean you guys have this week? Uh, we are
104
00:10:03,030 --> 00:10:09,669
playing Boise. We didn't say. Yeah, I didn't say bucks. I said the ducks, man. Oregon
105
00:10:09,669 --> 00:10:16,389
ducks. Uh. Hey. Hey, Marcus. Yes, Marcus. Just to just to clear something up. I'm not a huge
106
00:10:16,630 --> 00:10:23,549
college fan, but but I am from the West Coast, if you remember, from 25 episodes ago. Yes,
107
00:10:23,550 --> 00:10:29,830
sir. I am a West Coast person, so I don't Ohio, but, uh, I
108
00:10:30,390 --> 00:10:37,229
go, uh, I'll go pro with you, but, um, I'm gonna have to go with the ducks, not the bucks. That's my
109
00:10:37,229 --> 00:10:42,309
guy right there. That's my guy. See what happens when you share a birthday with somebody? You end
110
00:10:42,349 --> 00:10:48,140
up being best friends. I. That's okay. I'll just get all my brownie points because I know the owners
111
00:10:48,140 --> 00:10:51,579
are O.H.. I know, I know.
112
00:10:55,420 --> 00:11:02,058
Oh, man, I love this episode every single time it comes up. Man. I can't wait to get to it, fellas. So,
113
00:11:02,419 --> 00:11:07,739
uh, I, I want to just I we can go around the seasons. I'm telling you right now, we can talk
114
00:11:07,780 --> 00:11:13,339
high school, whatever. Football Friday. I love it all myself, man. This is like you said, there's
115
00:11:13,340 --> 00:11:18,939
nothing better than this time of year. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. I agree with you. Now, uh, we're going to do
116
00:11:18,940 --> 00:11:25,339
something kind of fun here to start off. And, uh, I didn't prepare you guys for this, so I'm gonna. I'm.
117
00:11:25,340 --> 00:11:29,499
I'm pulling this from your college football fandom right out of the middle of your chest,
118
00:11:29,500 --> 00:11:35,259
right where that team that you bleed for resides this time of year. And what we're doing here is
119
00:11:35,260 --> 00:11:41,699
called plant Your flag. Okay. This is perfect because we're recording right at the beginning of
120
00:11:41,699 --> 00:11:46,769
football season, which means that at the end of football season. We can have you guys back on and
121
00:11:46,770 --> 00:11:53,489
we can talk about how right or wrong our plant our flag scenario was. So I'm going to go
122
00:11:53,489 --> 00:11:58,890
around the horn here. All you got to do is make me a prediction that has to do with your favorite
123
00:11:58,929 --> 00:12:05,849
team. This can be college or pro. Doesn't matter to me. Tell me who your team is and what
124
00:12:05,849 --> 00:12:11,609
you think they're going to accomplish this year as the die hard fan that you are. Mike, I'm going
125
00:12:11,610 --> 00:12:16,609
to start with you, man, because I know you're going NFL here. You've there's already been shots fired
126
00:12:16,609 --> 00:12:22,249
at you as a Bengals fan. Uh so I'm going to give you the first chance to plant your flag. Give me a
127
00:12:22,249 --> 00:12:28,489
prediction for the Cincinnati Bengals this year that you are very confident will come to fruition.
128
00:12:29,050 --> 00:12:35,729
They will win the AFC North. But unfortunately Joe Burrow is probably going to get hurt.
129
00:12:35,729 --> 00:12:40,969
So they're not going to do good in the playoffs. But I'm hoping that's a Bengals fan. If I've ever
130
00:12:40,969 --> 00:12:45,399
heard one man, you are very real with yourself. You know that they got a hell of a squad, and you know
131
00:12:45,400 --> 00:12:50,639
that they're not going to keep your quarterback up on two feet. I mean, it's that's that's been
132
00:12:50,640 --> 00:12:57,159
happening all the way since Boomer Esiason and, uh, Ikey Woods hasn't it? Yeah. Yes, it sure has.
133
00:12:59,080 --> 00:13:04,679
You know, you got to get that line a little better as a as a 40 Niner fan. I remember that, uh, that
134
00:13:04,679 --> 00:13:09,319
Super Bowl against your boys and, uh, and Icky woods and the icky shuffle and the whole thing. I
135
00:13:09,319 --> 00:13:15,118
was really young at the time. Uh, but I do remember it. And being a 40 Niner fan all the way back then,
136
00:13:15,119 --> 00:13:20,559
it's different than being a 40 niner fan today. But, uh, the Bengals, man, it's been a struggle. I've
137
00:13:20,559 --> 00:13:25,880
got some some, uh, some family, some far removed family that lives out in Ohio. And they're all
138
00:13:25,880 --> 00:13:30,599
mostly Bengals fans. And it's been tough on him for a while, man. How do you how do you keep
139
00:13:30,599 --> 00:13:35,399
yourself upbeat for the season? You you just watch Ja'Marr Chase run out of that tunnel and think,
140
00:13:35,400 --> 00:13:40,719
look, if we got that guy, we can do pretty much anything. Yeah, he's he's he's pretty good. He's
141
00:13:40,719 --> 00:13:47,590
awesome. But just high hopes in the beginning. And and just just keep watching because it's good, win
142
00:13:47,590 --> 00:13:53,149
or lose. There you go. All right. Prefer. Prefer winter. Hey, Marcus. Real quick, though, I do have a
143
00:13:53,150 --> 00:13:58,510
prediction for college. Okay. And, um, I'll throw a little bit in. I'm not very knowledgeable, but I
144
00:13:58,510 --> 00:14:05,468
think Andy Indiana is going to repeat again. Sorry, Ohio. Wow. I'll tell you, I take a little bit
145
00:14:05,469 --> 00:14:10,669
of offense to that one as well. You know, I, I think the hardest part about watching Indiana win a
146
00:14:10,669 --> 00:14:14,989
national title is that you only have to go back like five years, and everybody would have told you
147
00:14:14,989 --> 00:14:21,509
that Indiana was not just one of the worst, but the worst D1 college football program when it
148
00:14:21,510 --> 00:14:26,069
came to winning percentage. And now they hired a cigarette as their head coach and they're
149
00:14:26,070 --> 00:14:32,349
hoisting a trophy. It blows me away, fellas. Anybody can win. Yeah. It's true.
150
00:14:32,909 --> 00:14:38,309
I never thought of Indiana as being a football school. It's always been a basketball program. Yep.
151
00:14:38,309 --> 00:14:42,179
That's true. Well, I'll tell you, if they come out with Hoosiers part two, and it's on the football
152
00:14:42,179 --> 00:14:48,899
field. I'm not watching it. I'm still upset about that game
153
00:14:48,899 --> 00:14:55,339
last year that, uh, sent us packing. So, uh, obviously that's what football fans do. We hold grudges, we
154
00:14:55,340 --> 00:15:00,419
hold on to things. But, Mike, I love your prediction there. I'm writing it down right now. We got
155
00:15:00,460 --> 00:15:06,739
Bengals winning the AFC. Uh winning their division. Sorry but not doing well in the playoffs because
156
00:15:06,740 --> 00:15:12,299
of a Joe Burrow injury. Uh good stuff there I like it guys. You kind of get the feeling of where I'm
157
00:15:12,300 --> 00:15:18,298
going with this plant your flag thing. So, Jeff, let's go to you, man. College or pro or both.
158
00:15:18,299 --> 00:15:23,579
Doesn't matter. Plant your flag. Make a prediction for your team right now that you think is coming
159
00:15:23,580 --> 00:15:30,179
true this season. You know, I'm doing both. I'm a big hoodie fan. So I'm going to say this I
160
00:15:30,379 --> 00:15:37,059
back I go back way back I, I, I seen every Super Bowl that they were in. So there have been
161
00:15:37,060 --> 00:15:43,329
heartbreaks San Francisco beat us play And now I want to say this. I'm going to go to I'm going to
162
00:15:43,329 --> 00:15:50,329
say it's going to be a rematch again with the Rams. And we're going to win it this year.
163
00:15:51,250 --> 00:15:58,049
And I'm also going to say that we got a national championship coming to Ohio
164
00:15:58,049 --> 00:16:04,089
State. You're going to have to go through Eugene to take that trophy home bucko. That's all I got
165
00:16:04,090 --> 00:16:10,449
to say to you. Well, we'll take care of that in week eight or whatever it is, I think. Yeah. Marcus,
166
00:16:10,450 --> 00:16:15,570
just remember, origin comes to the horseshoe this year. Oh, I know, and the last time we came to the
167
00:16:15,570 --> 00:16:21,729
horseshoe, we whooped your ass there, too. So I. You know, it's these regular season games. I mean, look,
168
00:16:21,729 --> 00:16:26,009
don't say anything about my squad in the playoffs because I know it's been questionable, but we've
169
00:16:26,049 --> 00:16:31,489
had we've owned the regular season the last couple of times. So, um, you know, I, I love where
170
00:16:31,489 --> 00:16:37,168
your heart's at because I understand it's easy to root for Ohio State, but, uh, I you got you got a
171
00:16:37,210 --> 00:16:42,679
juggernaut coming to town in November. And one thing I really like about that Dux Buckeyes
172
00:16:42,680 --> 00:16:47,559
matchup is that it happens later in the year. I think that's really cool because we get a chance
173
00:16:47,559 --> 00:16:52,159
to see what these teams really are. They don't have to come out. You know that Ohio State Texas
174
00:16:52,160 --> 00:16:58,559
game these last two years has been well. Walk me through it, Jeff. As a as an Ohio State fan, how do
175
00:16:58,560 --> 00:17:05,520
you feel about playing Texas at the beginning of each year? I am going to be honest with you. And
176
00:17:05,520 --> 00:17:12,479
this is because we are so good and we have such great talent. We lost, I
177
00:17:12,479 --> 00:17:19,279
think, 7 or 8 defensive players to the NFL, so that does
178
00:17:19,280 --> 00:17:26,119
make me a bit nervous. Over to the Texas game, because we're going to be an untested
179
00:17:26,120 --> 00:17:33,079
defense. And I do think that Arch Manning and the Texas group is pretty
180
00:17:33,120 --> 00:17:40,029
dang good. And I and I will say this. I don't like being preseason number one
181
00:17:40,030 --> 00:17:46,709
in the AP either, because for whatever reason, whenever, if the Buckeyes were stumble
182
00:17:46,709 --> 00:17:52,749
early, it's not like Alabama. Alabama can stumble early when they come out number one, and they
183
00:17:52,749 --> 00:17:59,310
would only drop maybe 1 or 2 spots. But they hit us hard. We stumble and we get knocked down 6 or 7
184
00:17:59,310 --> 00:18:04,150
spots, and then sometimes it's hard to get back into the top. I mean, I know it's different now.
185
00:18:04,150 --> 00:18:09,749
They take top 12, but when it was the top four, we could hardly ever get back to the top four to get
186
00:18:09,750 --> 00:18:15,790
back into the talk of a national championship. And we would go on a run and look good and be
187
00:18:15,790 --> 00:18:21,749
deserving of it. But you know, that's the way it goes. I don't want to be crying and and and being
188
00:18:21,749 --> 00:18:28,549
old for sport or nothing like that. But. But no man listen, I think
189
00:18:28,589 --> 00:18:34,789
this is going to be a good year for me in sports, I feel okay. Do you want, uh, Jeff, did you want to
190
00:18:34,789 --> 00:18:39,669
make a Bengals prediction as well. And listen I didn't hear a real prediction there for Ohio
191
00:18:39,670 --> 00:18:45,709
State. Are you going to call it a national title year? I am calling it a national title year okay.
192
00:18:45,749 --> 00:18:51,549
And I'm calling it a and I'm calling it a Super Bowl title in bingo country. That's right. You did
193
00:18:51,589 --> 00:18:57,229
say that they're going to they're going to beat the Rams this time. Okay I'm writing that down man.
194
00:18:57,270 --> 00:19:03,149
It's in stone now. Nothing you can do about it I love this though I love how you guys before you
195
00:19:03,149 --> 00:19:10,069
want to know what's really wild. What's that? I was actually a Cowboys fan when I was very
196
00:19:10,069 --> 00:19:16,349
young. Oh, you poor soul. Oh. That's worse. Well, the problem, the reason being is
197
00:19:16,349 --> 00:19:23,309
because back in the late 70s, we didn't have cable. So everything we had was ran
198
00:19:23,310 --> 00:19:30,189
off of Ben ten or whatever. So you got like ABC, CBS, NBC or whatever through the antenna. So
199
00:19:30,310 --> 00:19:35,660
the only time I got anything I ever watched was on it. Pat Summerall John Madden was the
200
00:19:35,660 --> 00:19:42,539
commentators and. And so I got to see the end of the career of Staubach. You know, Danny White was
201
00:19:42,540 --> 00:19:48,939
the punter. And then whenever he got a sore left. Danny White became the quarterback. But
202
00:19:48,980 --> 00:19:55,219
every week was the Cowboys. And obviously it was all the teams in the and the
203
00:19:56,260 --> 00:20:02,979
the the northeast, the Giants and the and the Redskins and and the Eagles. They were it seemed
204
00:20:02,979 --> 00:20:09,779
like they were always. And then the Cowboys and the 40 Niners had their thing. And so I was it my
205
00:20:09,780 --> 00:20:15,020
first couple children had cowboys stuff you know because I was in the 90s still like in the
206
00:20:15,020 --> 00:20:21,619
Cowboys I mean I was like the Cowboys were my NFC team and the Bengals were my AFC team. It was
207
00:20:21,660 --> 00:20:27,779
um it and I it was probably the first year, um, that the Bengals went to the Super Bowl that I
208
00:20:27,779 --> 00:20:33,129
actually started. Uh, our we got cable and our cable system had
209
00:20:34,689 --> 00:20:40,609
channel five out of Cincinnati. And so I was getting the Bengals every week. So I was like, hey,
210
00:20:40,609 --> 00:20:47,129
they're just down the road from me, you know, a couple of hours. And not only that, but, uh, I don't
211
00:20:47,130 --> 00:20:52,328
know, just some of the names and things like that. And then I got into fantasy football. Then I just
212
00:20:52,329 --> 00:20:56,529
liked football in general. But the Bengals ended up being, you know, the home game. So they're
213
00:20:56,569 --> 00:21:01,249
they're they're my team. Well good man because I can tell you one thing we don't need any more of
214
00:21:01,290 --> 00:21:06,529
in this world. And that's Cowboys fans. So, uh, I'm happy to hear that you're, uh, you're a diehard
215
00:21:06,569 --> 00:21:13,249
Bengal now. Um, you know, as a as a 40 Niners fan growing up, it was only the Cowboys that I was
216
00:21:13,249 --> 00:21:17,769
concerned about. And the rivalries have sort of changed over the years of things have gotten
217
00:21:17,770 --> 00:21:23,010
tougher for Jerry in the squad down there in Dallas. But, um, I'll tell you guys a little story
218
00:21:23,010 --> 00:21:28,050
about the some of the very earliest of my football fandom kind of coming out before I
219
00:21:28,050 --> 00:21:34,719
really knew what was going on. My dad had taken me to a boat show up in Seattle, and we're walking
220
00:21:34,720 --> 00:21:40,640
around looking at all these huge yachts and ski boats and fishing boats, bass boats, you name it.
221
00:21:40,640 --> 00:21:46,959
They had everything there and there was only one TV. At the time, this was before, uh, I believe this
222
00:21:46,959 --> 00:21:53,958
was the 94 NFC Championship game. 40 Niners ended up winning and going to play in the 95 Super Bowl
223
00:21:53,959 --> 00:21:58,199
against the Chargers. If I'm not mistaken, I might have my years a little mixed up, but that was the
224
00:21:58,199 --> 00:22:05,159
season we're talking. So I'm ten. Okay, uh, I'm standing there at this little 12 inch tube
225
00:22:05,160 --> 00:22:09,959
TV that has the antennas pulled up, and they keep moving them, trying to get better reception. And
226
00:22:09,959 --> 00:22:14,920
we're watching the worst reception of the NFC Championship game that I've ever seen. It's it's
227
00:22:14,920 --> 00:22:21,799
all staticky and everything. And there's a guy standing next to me, an adult, and it's just me and
228
00:22:21,800 --> 00:22:28,799
him, me and me and this guy, I don't I don't know from Adam. And we're watching and my dad
229
00:22:28,800 --> 00:22:33,589
will tell you that I was given this guy some guff because the Niners were winning that game and
230
00:22:33,589 --> 00:22:37,989
they ended up winning that game. And I you know, I don't know how to talk too much trash as a ten
231
00:22:38,030 --> 00:22:43,709
year old, but I was kind of letting him have it. And you know, he laughed it off and shook my hand
232
00:22:43,709 --> 00:22:48,789
and off we went. And my dad walked up to me and he goes, do you know who you were just standing next
233
00:22:48,790 --> 00:22:55,108
to? And I said, no, I was a Cowboys fan. Why do I care who he is? You know, normal stuff.
234
00:22:55,469 --> 00:23:02,469
And my dad says that is the owner of M. B sports, the boat brand that your best friend's dad
235
00:23:02,469 --> 00:23:08,229
owns one of his boats. He's the owner. He's the guy behind it. His name's Mike Brindle. He's a he's a
236
00:23:08,229 --> 00:23:13,389
slalom ski champion now. He owns his own boat company. And you were just insulting him. And I
237
00:23:13,389 --> 00:23:17,790
don't know if I can take you home because my dad's a big boat guy, you know, and he. He couldn't
238
00:23:17,790 --> 00:23:23,149
believe I didn't know the guy from Adam, but he was he was a Cowboys fan, so he was he had a
239
00:23:23,150 --> 00:23:28,429
target on his back as far as I was concerned. So, um, I've got some history with the Cowboys there,
240
00:23:28,430 --> 00:23:33,300
Jeff. And I'm glad to hear that you're a Bengal now at heart because, um, I don't know, I might have
241
00:23:33,300 --> 00:23:37,059
had to pause the podcast to take you off the air and have a conversation with you. If you were
242
00:23:37,060 --> 00:23:43,939
going to come in here and root for the Cowboys. Ask you if everything's okay,
243
00:23:43,979 --> 00:23:48,739
actually is what I would do. That's the first thing I would do. Hey, as a Cowboys fan, are you
244
00:23:48,739 --> 00:23:55,579
okay? Right. You know, back in the day when I was a cowboy fan, all I could ever
245
00:23:55,900 --> 00:24:01,979
replay in my mind was the catch that, you know, Montana rolling right, going out of bounds,
246
00:24:01,980 --> 00:24:06,739
throwing back across his body back toward the center a little bit, and Dwight Clark going up
247
00:24:06,739 --> 00:24:13,219
high and grabbing it that that. I can't remember what year that was, but that was that was one of
248
00:24:13,219 --> 00:24:20,060
the heartbreaking moments when I was a Cowboys fan. Yep. I think that was 1984, if I'm not mistaken.
249
00:24:20,060 --> 00:24:25,499
And, uh, the one thing I've always loved about that play is he threw that ball over a guy named Ed,
250
00:24:25,539 --> 00:24:30,889
two tall Jones. Well, you weren't tall enough that day, and you were added to. You're not tall enough,
251
00:24:30,889 --> 00:24:37,329
Jones, because he got it over the top of you there. But, uh, you know, I'll tell you, um, I, you know, as a
252
00:24:37,329 --> 00:24:41,889
die hard niner fan, I was fortunate enough to go down and watch a game about 6 or 7 years ago. And
253
00:24:41,889 --> 00:24:47,209
they have a museum there at Levi's Stadium that you can walk through before the game. It's really
254
00:24:47,209 --> 00:24:51,770
cool if you're a 40 Niners fan. I don't know if you'd enjoy it as a Bengals fan or a Cowboys fan,
255
00:24:51,810 --> 00:24:58,089
but you know, it's it's worth your time if you're in San Francisco. But they have a bronze statue of
256
00:24:58,130 --> 00:25:04,968
that catch of Dwight Clark making that catch. Oh wow. And it's a it's elevated off the ground to
257
00:25:05,009 --> 00:25:11,688
represent how high he jumped to make that catch. And as a five foot nine man I'm standing next to
258
00:25:11,689 --> 00:25:18,489
it and his knees are above my shoulders. You guys I mean it is you cannot put it into
259
00:25:18,530 --> 00:25:24,050
words without going there and actually standing next to it. Um, and, and just a little peek behind
260
00:25:24,050 --> 00:25:28,839
the curtain of how really enthralled with football, I am. I mean, I will wear another man's
261
00:25:28,839 --> 00:25:35,519
name on my back. Watch me. Um, you know, I don't have any problem with it. Uh,
262
00:25:35,520 --> 00:25:41,199
but, uh, myself. Yep. Yeah. Well, uh, Gary, you're the last one that has to plant your flag here, man.
263
00:25:41,199 --> 00:25:46,679
Make us a prediction for your college pro team. Doesn't matter. You can do both. Uh, what do you
264
00:25:46,680 --> 00:25:53,559
think is happening this year with your teams? For sure. We'll start in college now, guys.
265
00:25:53,560 --> 00:25:59,520
Undefeated national champions. Wow. Running the table. Yes.
266
00:26:00,120 --> 00:26:03,879
Perfect season. Man. I love you, man.
267
00:26:07,239 --> 00:26:10,759
Because Oregon's going to come to Columbus and they're not going to know what to do there
268
00:26:10,759 --> 00:26:14,839
because they've never played in an environment like that. And they're just going to get a muddle
269
00:26:14,840 --> 00:26:21,598
stomped in those ducks. They're going to be ducking all the bombs. Because,
270
00:26:21,959 --> 00:26:28,949
because, because even even though we lost eight guys on the defense to the draft,
271
00:26:29,390 --> 00:26:36,389
we only lost one on the offense. And Julian Singh and Jeremiah Smith is just
272
00:26:36,389 --> 00:26:43,309
going to tear it up. And then our our our starters this year are going to prove that they
273
00:26:43,310 --> 00:26:49,588
deserve to be they deserve to be starters. And they're just going to they're just going to shut
274
00:26:49,589 --> 00:26:55,589
down every offense they come against. Okay. That's my prediction. Undefeated national title holders
275
00:26:55,589 --> 00:27:02,309
for 2026. Okay. You and every other Buckeye fan. Gary. Gary. What's up? Hey,
276
00:27:02,310 --> 00:27:08,150
hey, remember when, uh, when, uh, Michigan planted their flag in the middle of, uh, the horseshoe? You
277
00:27:08,150 --> 00:27:14,789
know, I was thinking about bringing it up. Let's do it. Yeah. Let's, uh, that's that's that's that's
278
00:27:14,789 --> 00:27:21,669
that's a subject there that that almost started a fight that actually, believe it or not, after
279
00:27:21,670 --> 00:27:28,459
that event, the Ohio The Ohio legislature almost passed a law making that
280
00:27:28,500 --> 00:27:35,379
illegal in the state of Ohio. Man, you know, you people shut up. Everybody in Ohio was
281
00:27:35,379 --> 00:27:40,419
about that. Yeah. You know, you've rubbed somebody the wrong way when they said it. Yeah, right. But
282
00:27:40,419 --> 00:27:46,139
the problem with all of that is Michigan had to copy somebody else because it wasn't it Baker
283
00:27:46,140 --> 00:27:52,059
Mayfield. It was when he was at Oklahoma, didn't he. Uh, he went and done a planting of the flag in the
284
00:27:52,060 --> 00:27:56,379
center of the. Well, that was at Ohio State, too, wasn't it? It was. It was. They didn't even have a
285
00:27:56,379 --> 00:28:02,859
rivalry. They were just upset at one another. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, there was something about
286
00:28:03,420 --> 00:28:08,459
that. They didn't shake hands at the beginning of the game or something, or captains or something. I
287
00:28:08,459 --> 00:28:13,619
can't remember. I can't remember exactly, but see. But the thing about it is Michigan couldn't do it
288
00:28:13,620 --> 00:28:19,699
on their own and think about it. No, it wasn't it wasn't Baker. It wasn't Baker. It was, um, it was
289
00:28:19,699 --> 00:28:25,609
Manziel. It was Johnny Manziel that did that. I thought it was Baker Mayfield. Well, either way. I
290
00:28:25,610 --> 00:28:30,369
mean, I mean, pick your pissed off, short white quarterback. It doesn't matter. They're pretty much
291
00:28:30,369 --> 00:28:36,490
the same guys, just different NFL careers. Right? And then they both had short stints with
292
00:28:36,490 --> 00:28:41,448
Cleveland. Yeah. So they both spent time at the stake on the lake. Hey, let me tell you something
293
00:28:41,449 --> 00:28:45,768
about Cleveland. The Cleveland Browns. If you're a quarterback and you play for the Cleveland Browns,
294
00:28:45,769 --> 00:28:50,809
it's going to be a short stint. You can just go ahead and mark that on your calendar. Fast forward
295
00:28:50,810 --> 00:28:55,089
a couple of years and that's when they're going to trade you regardless if you've won games. So
296
00:28:55,089 --> 00:29:01,369
that's just Cleveland in a nutshell. Right. Right. Exactly. That's a that's the quarterback carousel.
297
00:29:01,410 --> 00:29:08,289
Yep. Yep. So Gary getting back to it now we've got Ohio State, uh, planting their flag on the
298
00:29:08,289 --> 00:29:13,729
national title with an undefeated perfect season and a mud hole. Stomped in my ducks on the way.
299
00:29:13,769 --> 00:29:20,689
I'll remember that. Uh, but how about your protein? So, unfortunately for the two
300
00:29:20,760 --> 00:29:27,240
Bengals fans here in the chat. Um, they think that they're going to make the playoffs with with a
301
00:29:27,240 --> 00:29:34,119
divisional title. And I hate to say it, but I have not been impressed with
302
00:29:34,119 --> 00:29:41,078
the offensive line in preseason. So I'm going to say that Joe Cool
303
00:29:41,120 --> 00:29:47,479
is going to be Joe injured by mid-season, and it's going to destroy their season, and they're going
304
00:29:47,480 --> 00:29:54,479
to be last in the AFC North. Pittsburgh is going to run the table and win the AFC North. And and
305
00:29:55,640 --> 00:30:01,599
I I'm not expecting Super Bowl, but I'm at least expecting the Pittsburgh Steelers to make it to
306
00:30:01,600 --> 00:30:07,518
the AFC Championship game. And how do you expect your quarterback to fare through that season
307
00:30:07,519 --> 00:30:12,159
since he's walking around on 41 year old ankles wheel wheelchair?
308
00:30:14,439 --> 00:30:21,159
I have a feeling, uh, if he does go down, we have three very capable quarterbacks
309
00:30:21,160 --> 00:30:27,919
behind them. Ready to ready to go back. Go under center. But I don't believe you're going to see
310
00:30:27,960 --> 00:30:34,278
Rodgers get hurt because even though he's 41 years old, he can still light the Jets and get
311
00:30:34,279 --> 00:30:41,199
away. That's true. Too late brother. Something's wrong. And, Gary,
312
00:30:41,199 --> 00:30:46,439
I want some of what you're smoking. Hey, hey,
313
00:30:48,440 --> 00:30:55,239
I ain't smoking anything. That's illegal trucking. Yeah, it's just diesel fumes, man.
314
00:30:55,239 --> 00:31:00,839
It's years and years of being around diesel fumes, I think, is all you can say here, but, uh, I like it.
315
00:31:00,840 --> 00:31:06,840
Guys, this is this is a good one. We've got we've got some real predictions here. And and just to
316
00:31:06,840 --> 00:31:12,359
make this fun and, and put myself on the line here as well. Uh, let me go ahead and give you my
317
00:31:12,360 --> 00:31:16,879
predictions for my teams this season, because I feel like if I'm going to ask you guys to go on
318
00:31:16,879 --> 00:31:22,829
the record, I should go on the record too. Also, you guys know where this is going? We got an Oregon
319
00:31:22,830 --> 00:31:28,589
national championship. Now, listen, I'm not going to mess around with the regular season, I don't care.
320
00:31:28,629 --> 00:31:34,669
Even if we do go into Ohio and get a mud hole stomped in us. As Gary said, I still think the
321
00:31:34,709 --> 00:31:40,588
ducks make the playoffs. And I think that this is our year. I think this is you know, you guys talk
322
00:31:40,630 --> 00:31:46,549
about your Ohio State Buckeyes losing 7 or 8 guys to the draft. We could have lost 7 or 8 guys to
323
00:31:46,549 --> 00:31:53,469
the draft. But they all came back. And four of them are on our defensive line. We've got four day one
324
00:31:53,469 --> 00:31:59,149
day two draft picks on that defensive line. So every bit of agreement that I have with you in
325
00:31:59,150 --> 00:32:03,909
your Ohio State Buckeyes offense being great, I'm going to tell you, I hope you got the best
326
00:32:04,270 --> 00:32:09,389
offensive line in the country, because if you don't, you're going to have four really big angry
327
00:32:09,430 --> 00:32:16,349
ducks sniffing down Julian Sands neck all day, but I digress. I've got the ducks winning the national
328
00:32:16,389 --> 00:32:22,739
title. I'll tell you this. I've got Dante Moore hoisting that Heisman at the end of the year. And,
329
00:32:23,100 --> 00:32:28,819
uh, we'll go over to probably that one. I'll give you that one. Okay. Appreciate it. We'll go over to
330
00:32:28,860 --> 00:32:35,059
Pro here. Uh, my 40 niners looking a little bit healthier than what they have been at this time
331
00:32:35,060 --> 00:32:41,179
of the year. Um, I've said this a couple of times in different places. I think that John, uh, John
332
00:32:41,179 --> 00:32:46,139
Lynch is the only one left that needs to make his blood sacrifice. But Kyle Shanahan, our coach, got
333
00:32:46,140 --> 00:32:51,659
in a head on collision, got injured this year. Jed York was looking up a prostitute in Pennsylvania
334
00:32:51,659 --> 00:32:58,539
for 140 bucks. This is a blood sacrifice, fellas. They are sacrificing themselves to the football
335
00:32:58,540 --> 00:33:04,579
gods. I'm telling you, before kickoff next weekend, you're going to see John Lynch show up. Maybe he's
336
00:33:04,579 --> 00:33:09,299
had a few too many, uh, oats sodas, and he's going to say something off color on a TikTok video
337
00:33:09,300 --> 00:33:14,579
that's going to go viral. That will complete the blood ritual. The 40 niners will have a healthy
338
00:33:14,579 --> 00:33:21,209
regular season. And I will tell you right now I'm thinking at least one playoff win, if
339
00:33:21,209 --> 00:33:27,009
not two, for my San Francisco 40 niners this year. It's the toughest division in football, the NFC
340
00:33:27,050 --> 00:33:32,689
West in my opinion, so I don't I'm not going to guarantee a division win. These teams tend to beat
341
00:33:32,690 --> 00:33:38,769
each other up in this division. But I've got the 40 niners getting to the NFC
342
00:33:38,889 --> 00:33:44,369
Championship game. I can't say it's a Super Bowl title winning team. There's too many good teams in
343
00:33:44,369 --> 00:33:50,329
the NFL this year, but I've got an NFC Championship appearance for my 40 Niners and a
344
00:33:50,329 --> 00:33:55,849
national title for my ducks, as well as a Heisman for Dante Moore. Fellas, let me have it. I gave you
345
00:33:55,850 --> 00:34:01,568
my opinion on your take. So you guys got anything to say about mine before we move on? I agree with
346
00:34:01,569 --> 00:34:08,289
the Heisman, but I. I can't agree with the rest. Okay. That's fine. You're that's your right as a
347
00:34:08,289 --> 00:34:15,039
red blooded American know my question is with 40 niners kicking off the NFL season in
348
00:34:15,040 --> 00:34:21,519
Melbourne, Australia. Granted, this probably going to air. This one's Aaron after opening week.
349
00:34:21,560 --> 00:34:26,600
Correct. Uh, no. This will air next. This will wear air next Wednesday. So we'll be after the college
350
00:34:26,600 --> 00:34:33,599
opener but before the NFL opener. Okay. So my question is is Nick Bosa and
351
00:34:33,600 --> 00:34:39,759
Kendall going to be able to play him. Uh Bosa is a yes. Against the Rams. Yeah Kittle is still up in
352
00:34:39,759 --> 00:34:46,600
the air. But it sounds like he is traveling. Uh and Bosa is a yes. He's gonna play. Yeah I did
353
00:34:46,600 --> 00:34:52,279
hear that. I do listen to NFL radio in my active receiver every once in a while a couple times a
354
00:34:52,280 --> 00:34:57,599
week. And I did hear that both of them were traveling, but I didn't hear whether or not they
355
00:34:57,600 --> 00:35:04,239
were going to be active for the game. So that's going to be a tough opening week matchup
356
00:35:04,679 --> 00:35:11,360
on foreign soil against not only in-state but division rivals. Yeah, yeah, it's going to be tough.
357
00:35:11,360 --> 00:35:15,590
There's no question about it. Look, there's not a 40 Niners fan out there that's happy about having
358
00:35:15,590 --> 00:35:21,389
to go halfway across the world to play the opener. Uh, but one thing I will say about is I think Kyle
359
00:35:21,389 --> 00:35:26,949
Shanahan's got it figured out. The 40 niners left or are leaving. I don't know if they've left yet,
360
00:35:26,949 --> 00:35:33,829
but, uh, today for Australia, the Rams are not leaving until next week. So I think
361
00:35:33,830 --> 00:35:39,148
you're going to see a 40 Niners team yesterday. Yesterday. There you go. Yesterday I think you're
362
00:35:39,149 --> 00:35:44,030
going to see a 40 Niners team that's well adjusted. Um I found this out yesterday. The Rams
363
00:35:44,030 --> 00:35:50,628
have the broadcasting rights in Australia. Um but there's not going to be a lot of Rams fans at
364
00:35:50,629 --> 00:35:56,990
that game. Call it right now. The 40 Niners fans are worldwide and we play home games wherever we
365
00:35:56,990 --> 00:36:03,309
go. Uh we play one in Mexico City last year. We play a home game in Los Angeles at least once a
366
00:36:03,309 --> 00:36:08,069
year. Uh, and that's, I think, why the Rams wanted this game in Australia. They're going to travel
367
00:36:08,070 --> 00:36:13,458
halfway across the world and realize there's a sea of red over there, too. Uh, so that's that's my
368
00:36:13,459 --> 00:36:19,059
thoughts. But again, I'm a I'm a fan. I'm not thinking through this logically, fellas. I'm just
369
00:36:19,060 --> 00:36:24,899
I'm seeing red and gold at this point. That's all I can see. I have heard, though, through the
370
00:36:24,899 --> 00:36:31,899
grapevine that there's a few sold out right from LA to Melbourne, so. Oh, it's all those 40
371
00:36:31,939 --> 00:36:36,779
niner fans that fill up Allegiant Stadium every year. That's who. That's they. They're just from LA.
372
00:36:36,780 --> 00:36:43,659
So they're flying out there. You know, the, uh, probably the that's probably the sad
373
00:36:43,700 --> 00:36:49,539
truth of it all because, I mean, I, I it's pretty much a home, uh, home field advantage for the
374
00:36:49,540 --> 00:36:55,540
Niners for a long time. It is. We called down there to play the Rams. That's crazy. I've never I never
375
00:36:55,899 --> 00:37:01,740
it was just. It's just a weird thing. Why do you think, uh, Pittsburgh plays so well on the road?
376
00:37:02,539 --> 00:37:09,499
Because the fans travel. Yes. You see terrible towels at every stadium they go
377
00:37:09,499 --> 00:37:14,169
to. And they are terrible. I mean, they couldn't have named that thing better. That terrible towel.
378
00:37:14,209 --> 00:37:21,049
Like, get it out of my face. You've been hitting me with it all day. Hold on though. Don't speak ill of
379
00:37:21,050 --> 00:37:26,929
the terrible cow. You will curse your teeth. The curse is real. That's right, that's right. You can't
380
00:37:26,930 --> 00:37:31,849
talk about the towel. And you can't talk about the fact that Bill Cowher spits a lot when he talks.
381
00:37:31,850 --> 00:37:38,529
Those things are off limits for Steeler fans, right? Yeah,
382
00:37:38,729 --> 00:37:44,009
that was what that is for sure. Bill coward did have a very wet mouth. Yeah, especially when he was
383
00:37:44,009 --> 00:37:49,649
yelling. He did. And Ryan Day has he has a beard drawn on with a Sharpie. I can keep going, fellas.
384
00:37:49,649 --> 00:37:56,649
I've got him for every team in the big game. Here it is on point every week. It doesn't matter. It is
385
00:37:56,649 --> 00:38:03,329
on point. He's got facial hair gag. Well, if you're painting it on with shoe polish, then. Yeah,
386
00:38:03,370 --> 00:38:08,329
it looks on point on the camera. That's what I'm saying. But it's got no texture. It's got no
387
00:38:08,330 --> 00:38:14,159
texture. guys. All right, fellas, uh, next thing we're going to do here, I'm going to stress you guys out
388
00:38:14,159 --> 00:38:20,799
a little bit, because this is a really fun one for me. Um, I kind of got this idea from, uh, some guys
389
00:38:20,800 --> 00:38:25,878
talking about whose jersey would you wear? And I want to. I want to give this a little bit of a
390
00:38:25,879 --> 00:38:32,839
trucking angle. Okay? You have to ride along in your truck for a full day's route
391
00:38:33,080 --> 00:38:39,958
with a anybody from your biggest rival team. And it can be any era that
392
00:38:39,959 --> 00:38:44,599
you want. Going all the way back to when we were wearing yellow, uh, leather helmets, I don't care.
393
00:38:44,639 --> 00:38:50,879
But as Ohio State fans, maybe you got to pick a guy from Michigan to ride with. As Bengals fans,
394
00:38:50,879 --> 00:38:56,599
you got to pick a Steeler. You know, as a Steeler fan, maybe you got to pick a Bengal or a Patriot.
395
00:38:56,719 --> 00:39:02,038
Uh, for a duck fan, I'm gonna have to pick an Oregon State beaver or, God forbid, a Washington
396
00:39:02,039 --> 00:39:08,469
Husky. Uh, so this is what I want you to think about a little bit. Now, who would ride along with
397
00:39:08,470 --> 00:39:14,349
you from your rival team? Who could you stomach? Who could you think? Maybe they've got such a good
398
00:39:14,350 --> 00:39:19,349
football career that you could just pick their brain all day long? Or who would you bring along
399
00:39:19,389 --> 00:39:24,989
to ridicule for an entire day? It really doesn't matter. But we're going to go right back to the
400
00:39:24,990 --> 00:39:31,629
top here. Mike, I'm going to start with you as a Bengal and, uh, and a Buckeye. Tell me,
401
00:39:31,790 --> 00:39:37,829
who would you ride along with from one of your rival teams for an entire day? Y'all don't want to
402
00:39:37,870 --> 00:39:43,109
hear this, but I'm going to go Michigan. And there was a quarterback there that won a few Super
403
00:39:43,110 --> 00:39:49,830
Bowls. And, uh, I'm going to have to go with that because, uh, he's he's he did pretty good. He's
404
00:39:49,830 --> 00:39:56,029
pretty smart. Yeah. He might be responsible for the downfall of football altogether, in my mind, with
405
00:39:56,029 --> 00:40:00,829
some of these rules that they made around him. But you're talking about the infamous sixth round
406
00:40:00,870 --> 00:40:07,819
pick, Mr. Thomas Brady. Aren't you sure that that would be the man? Yeah, Yeah. Hard to, uh. Hard to
407
00:40:07,820 --> 00:40:14,499
disrespect that guy, but real easy to hate him. And he and he's he's, uh,
408
00:40:14,500 --> 00:40:21,259
responsible for, uh, Deflategate and a few other incidents. Spygate? Yep. Absolutely.
409
00:40:21,260 --> 00:40:26,099
Man. He is. Well, that's a really good pick. I would think. Probably one of the best ones you can make
410
00:40:26,139 --> 00:40:32,059
is just a die hard football fan. Um, and I love the fact that you're not saying that's from your pro,
411
00:40:32,060 --> 00:40:37,059
uh, alliance because you're thinking, look, my pro alliance runs too deep. There's no way I'm going
412
00:40:37,059 --> 00:40:42,100
to say a Bengals fan's riding with Tom Brady. But as a Buckeye, I guess I can stomach him, right?
413
00:40:42,300 --> 00:40:49,139
Right, right, right. Got it. All right. Jeff Linne, who are you riding around with from your rival team,
414
00:40:49,139 --> 00:40:55,019
if you absolutely had to. Well, I have to admit that's a pretty good one that he just chose. But
415
00:40:55,019 --> 00:41:01,899
I'm going to go back years before that. And I got a lot of respect just because he's been
416
00:41:01,899 --> 00:41:07,648
able to do a lot in the coaching world as well. I would say probably Jim Harbaugh, just because I
417
00:41:07,649 --> 00:41:14,529
would want to pick his brain on his thoughts on the game itself, how to just what
418
00:41:14,529 --> 00:41:20,728
does he look at and what does he see when he's trying to think of schemes and that kind of stuff?
419
00:41:21,129 --> 00:41:27,729
Um, if it's a, if I would go pro and, uh, and if I had to pick and
420
00:41:27,729 --> 00:41:34,729
choose like a Steeler, I'd probably have to go with
421
00:41:34,730 --> 00:41:41,609
probably Ben Roethlisberger, somebody that was a little more recent. Um, and not only that, but
422
00:41:41,969 --> 00:41:48,810
but you know, he's a Miami, uh, I don't know what it was when he was there on the Red Hawk. When they
423
00:41:48,810 --> 00:41:53,809
don't call him, you know, that they used to be, uh, it was an Indian name at one time, but it's
424
00:41:53,810 --> 00:42:00,290
RedHawks now. But, uh, he he's actually from, uh, like the
425
00:42:00,290 --> 00:42:06,918
Lima area or something like that of Ohio. so. It's not too awful bad. He's still
426
00:42:07,159 --> 00:42:11,479
from the Buckeye country, you know what I mean? I know what you mean. Just make sure you get him a
427
00:42:11,479 --> 00:42:16,319
helmet, okay? Because one more concussion from that guy. You know, you hit a hard break and he bumps
428
00:42:16,320 --> 00:42:20,319
his head off the dash. You might be having to buy him coloring books for Christmas. Okay.
429
00:42:23,720 --> 00:42:29,719
Uh, actually, let me let me correct you there, Marcus. The dude has more knee injury issues than
430
00:42:29,720 --> 00:42:34,359
he does head injury issues. Okay? So make sure he's got those three points of contact. That's what
431
00:42:34,360 --> 00:42:41,079
we're looking for with Ben Roethlisberger, right? We don't want him to fall out of the truck. I like
432
00:42:41,080 --> 00:42:47,879
it because you're talking about a guy who grew up in my neck of the woods. He was actually
433
00:42:47,879 --> 00:42:54,759
from Findlay, Ohio. Findlay okay. Yep. Gotcha. He played for the Findlay Trojans in high school.
434
00:42:55,759 --> 00:43:02,279
Uh, played for University of Miami, Ohio. Yep. And was drafted in the first round at
435
00:43:02,360 --> 00:43:08,639
the 23rd. If I remember correctly, the Pittsburgh Steelers played his whole career there,
436
00:43:08,639 --> 00:43:15,639
and this year he is eligible to make the Hall of Fame and he will put on the gold
437
00:43:15,639 --> 00:43:21,280
jacket this year. There's another prediction for us. I like where your head's at. And I must say,
438
00:43:21,280 --> 00:43:28,279
Jeff, I also like the Jim Harbaugh pick there for for an Ohio State fan. Um, you know, as a
439
00:43:28,279 --> 00:43:33,678
40 niners, I've got a very special place, coach. Yep. I got a very special place in my heart for him.
440
00:43:33,679 --> 00:43:38,359
I'll tell you guys this about myself. I actually dressed up as Jim Harbaugh for Halloween one year.
441
00:43:38,399 --> 00:43:43,799
Easiest costume I've ever made. I just went to Walmart and bought a pair of khakis, uh, and put on
442
00:43:43,800 --> 00:43:50,560
a 40 Niners shirt. And I was Jim Harbaugh. It was great. So. Right. Um, uh, Gary, we're on to you, man,
443
00:43:50,560 --> 00:43:56,159
for, uh, for your rival. Who you riding along with? And and what's the thought process behind it if
444
00:43:56,199 --> 00:44:03,069
you absolutely had to. So Mike and Jeff both had really
445
00:44:03,070 --> 00:44:09,829
good ones. Yep. I mean, so for the college side, I can't.
446
00:44:10,389 --> 00:44:17,229
I mean, obviously that that team up north I'd have to go with. But that's just a really
447
00:44:17,230 --> 00:44:23,909
tough one because like those are two really good picks.
448
00:44:24,870 --> 00:44:31,709
So I mean, just to try to be different than them, I would have to say probably
449
00:44:32,189 --> 00:44:38,509
JJ McCarthy because he is a national title quarterback. Okay. That's not a bad one. I mean,
450
00:44:38,709 --> 00:44:45,509
who now who is now residing in Minnesota playing for the Vikings? Yep,
451
00:44:45,549 --> 00:44:50,589
yep. And uh, you know, that's a that's a pretty good one. I'm I'm surprised that you're going with that
452
00:44:50,590 --> 00:44:55,789
recent because I can imagine, uh, you know, that was if I'm not mistaken, that was the flag plant year.
453
00:44:55,789 --> 00:45:02,659
So, uh, that's that's got to still be a pretty open, uh, recent wound for you there, but, um, you're
454
00:45:02,659 --> 00:45:09,339
okay with it. I'm okay with it. Because it wasn't it planned to play. Okay. Gotcha. Gotcha. If it would
455
00:45:09,379 --> 00:45:15,779
have been him. All bets are off, right? You guys are fighting in that cab. I don't know, I would have
456
00:45:15,780 --> 00:45:18,259
been heartbreaking and slamming into the dash.
457
00:45:22,939 --> 00:45:28,539
I love it, fellas. I love it. All right, well, that's really good. I'm gonna give you one. Oh, sorry. Go
458
00:45:28,539 --> 00:45:35,378
ahead. On the pro side though, on the pro side, I
459
00:45:35,379 --> 00:45:42,259
would have to say because Bengals fans think Pittsburgh is
460
00:45:42,300 --> 00:45:49,259
their arch rival. But anybody who follows the AFC North knows that it's the
461
00:45:49,259 --> 00:45:56,099
Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers that are arch rivals. Right. And I would have to say
462
00:45:57,139 --> 00:46:03,128
that Picking a archrival.
463
00:46:03,969 --> 00:46:10,969
Um. Uh, team member, I would have to say Baker Mayfield.
464
00:46:11,570 --> 00:46:18,089
He would be entertaining, man. He would have some good conversation with Baker Mayfield. I,
465
00:46:18,250 --> 00:46:25,169
I give credit where credit. Dude, look at what he's doing in Tampa Bay now. Yep. He is on
466
00:46:25,170 --> 00:46:31,409
fire. And I think Cleveland would be a team to compete against like a really tough team to
467
00:46:31,929 --> 00:46:38,129
compete against. If the Browns would actually give him a chance and not try to play him injured.
468
00:46:38,330 --> 00:46:44,049
Yep. Yeah I can agree man. And you know Baker's got that attitude about him. He's not the biggest guy.
469
00:46:44,050 --> 00:46:48,609
He's not the fastest. He doesn't have the strongest arm. But he's got enough heart for a
470
00:46:48,610 --> 00:46:54,129
full team plus a couple. And, uh, I love to see it, man. I tell you, there's one thing about Baker
471
00:46:54,129 --> 00:46:59,560
Mayfield that I don't think many quarterbacks have, and that is, he'll get hit right in the mouth
472
00:46:59,560 --> 00:47:05,360
and get rolled up into a pile that looks like it came out of a Warner Brothers cartoon, and he pops
473
00:47:05,360 --> 00:47:11,479
right up and he's chirping at the guy that just hit him. I know that that puts his his, uh, face on
474
00:47:11,480 --> 00:47:16,879
a poster in that locker room, uh, of the opposing defense. But I love seeing it happen, man. It's what
475
00:47:16,919 --> 00:47:21,519
football is, right? Oh, you think you hit me hard? You didn't hit me hard. I've been hit harder than
476
00:47:21,519 --> 00:47:27,039
that by the last time I walked in front of a Tesla. You know, a that type of stuff, like, I, I love
477
00:47:27,040 --> 00:47:32,599
it. I think Baker's got a great attitude. Um, I, I think that, uh, I really like that pick for your
478
00:47:32,600 --> 00:47:39,439
pro one there, Gary. Uh, good conversation for sure with Baker Mayfield. I've got one. And
479
00:47:39,439 --> 00:47:44,239
here's here's the deal. I'm going to put myself in your guys's shoes. If if I was to have to do your
480
00:47:44,240 --> 00:47:51,240
job for a day and I had to take an arch rival with me, I'm, I'm taking Marshawn Lynch. And I'll
481
00:47:51,240 --> 00:47:57,429
tell you why, then. This goes for college and pro for me, okay? Because he kicked our ass when he was
482
00:47:57,429 --> 00:48:03,349
in Seattle, and I'm a 40 Niner fan and going all the way back to his tenure at the University of
483
00:48:03,350 --> 00:48:08,989
California in the great Pac 12 conference. He kicked our ass. Then two when we were ducks
484
00:48:09,030 --> 00:48:13,590
playing the Cal Bears. So I'm going to I'm going to cover both bases with one guy, and I'm going to
485
00:48:13,590 --> 00:48:18,628
tell you what the situation is before we get into the truck. While Marshawn Lynch is out there
486
00:48:18,629 --> 00:48:24,510
helping me with my pre-trip, I'm going to say, hey, Marshawn, now I just want to remind you that they
487
00:48:24,510 --> 00:48:29,589
will find you if you don't go along with me on this ride. So the only thing he'll say to me all
488
00:48:29,590 --> 00:48:34,829
day long is I'm just here so I don't get fined. And that's one of my favorite parts of Marshawn
489
00:48:34,830 --> 00:48:40,628
Lynch his career. Just awesome. Just keep saying that to me, buddy. That way we don't have to talk
490
00:48:40,670 --> 00:48:47,429
about football, okay? You're just here so you don't get fined, I get it. Uh, so so that's my pick, fellas.
491
00:48:47,429 --> 00:48:52,510
Uh, and also, I, I think he's kind of funny, you know, if you ever watch the, uh, the TV show The League,
492
00:48:52,550 --> 00:48:57,458
uh, which was about fantasy football on FX. Marshawn Lynch makes a couple of great cameos in
493
00:48:57,500 --> 00:49:04,019
that show. Um, so so that's my pick though is really good stuff here for you guys. Um, I'm going
494
00:49:04,020 --> 00:49:09,379
to take it away from the, uh, from the imaginary or the imaginative here for a minute. And we're going
495
00:49:09,379 --> 00:49:14,339
to talk about something that I think real football fans can sit down around a table and
496
00:49:14,340 --> 00:49:20,739
enjoy a tall, cool one or a cup of coffee and really dig into. And that's rule changes, fellas.
497
00:49:20,739 --> 00:49:27,540
Now, anywhere in the scope of college or pro. If there was one rule that you would
498
00:49:27,540 --> 00:49:33,579
change, what would it be? And I'm going to give you guys mine first this time to kind of give you a
499
00:49:33,580 --> 00:49:39,899
primer of of where you can go with this because it there's there's no guardrails here, unlike the
500
00:49:39,899 --> 00:49:45,779
highways and byways that you guys drive every day. No guardrails. So I'm telling you, if they put me
501
00:49:45,780 --> 00:49:52,619
in charge of football for one week and this goes back to Tom Brady and all the
502
00:49:52,620 --> 00:49:57,289
rules that they've enacted around Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes and all of their golden boy
503
00:49:57,289 --> 00:50:03,689
quarterbacks. I am changing the roughing the passer rule if there is an
504
00:50:03,689 --> 00:50:10,648
inadvertent hand to the face. It's going to be a five yard penalty with no automatic first down. I
505
00:50:10,649 --> 00:50:16,609
am so sick of seeing a guy put his hand up to block a pass and graze the helmet of Patrick
506
00:50:16,610 --> 00:50:22,449
Mahomes, and gift the Kansas City Chiefs 15 yards in an automatic first down. I think it's bush
507
00:50:22,449 --> 00:50:28,849
league. I think it's soft. I think you know what? It's football. Stop trying to make the quarterback
508
00:50:28,850 --> 00:50:34,529
into a guy that's independent of the rest of the football game. Everybody else can get slapped in
509
00:50:34,529 --> 00:50:39,889
the mouth and there's no penalty. Why is it that Tom Brady gets the luxury of 15 extra yards in a
510
00:50:39,889 --> 00:50:45,849
first down? So that's the rule I'm changing. If you give me a shot, fellas, uh, Mike will go right back
511
00:50:45,850 --> 00:50:51,610
to the top here and start with you. Any rule and this, this could be nil, too. This could be free
512
00:50:51,679 --> 00:50:58,600
agency. It doesn't matter. What are you changing? I. You stole my thunder. I was going to
513
00:50:58,600 --> 00:51:05,599
go with that. But not necessarily, uh, hand in the face, but but, uh, um, when
514
00:51:05,600 --> 00:51:10,799
they started giving quarterbacks flags. So you pull the flag instead of tackling them. That's.
515
00:51:10,800 --> 00:51:16,199
That's a rule I'd like to see change back to the old days. Yeah. Just let him stand in there and get
516
00:51:16,239 --> 00:51:22,759
walloped. Right. That's right, that's right. It kind of makes me wonder, since we mentioned Joe
517
00:51:22,759 --> 00:51:29,119
Burrow, it kind of makes me wonder if I'm sorry the flag I met were the ones they were wearing,
518
00:51:29,120 --> 00:51:35,799
not the referee flag. Oh, yeah, I get you, I get you. Well, it makes me wonder, you know, we brought up
519
00:51:35,800 --> 00:51:39,839
Joe Burrow in one of your predictions, Mike, was that Joe Burrow was going to get injured. And I
520
00:51:39,840 --> 00:51:45,080
wonder if we would see, you know, originally they said, well, we gotta we gotta legislate around the
521
00:51:45,080 --> 00:51:50,629
quarterback to make sure quarterbacks can stay healthy. But you don't you don't continually stay
522
00:51:50,629 --> 00:51:56,829
healthy if you don't get hit in football, that's why. Still, at practices they might be walking
523
00:51:56,830 --> 00:52:01,309
through and shells they might be wearing. No pads and just helmets. But there's always one day a
524
00:52:01,310 --> 00:52:06,709
week at least, that these teams are going out there and hitting each other at full power,
525
00:52:06,709 --> 00:52:12,789
because you cannot expect to practice without getting hit, and then go get hit in a game at game
526
00:52:12,789 --> 00:52:17,749
speed and walk away from it. So I think these changes and all these rules that came in have
527
00:52:17,750 --> 00:52:24,429
actually made quarterbacks softer over the years. Mike I agree. Totally agree. Boomer
528
00:52:24,429 --> 00:52:30,869
Esiason could take a hit. Yep. Yeah it took hundreds of them I saw him a lot of them in those
529
00:52:30,870 --> 00:52:37,789
40 Niners Super Bowl. Sorry I'm just trying to be a jerk now. That's not the original TV well person
530
00:52:37,790 --> 00:52:44,628
that he hits when he plays. Yep. Well you seen you seen last year when, uh, uh, I
531
00:52:44,629 --> 00:52:51,459
forget his name for Cleveland. Got the, uh, the sack record, and he didn't even touch Joe Burrow
532
00:52:51,500 --> 00:52:57,459
and Myles Garrett. Yes. Thank you. And Joe Burrow just fell down. He didn't even touch him. Yeah. And
533
00:52:57,459 --> 00:53:03,259
he got a sack for that. That's that's crazy. That wasn't a sack. Yep. And then came the hammer. And
534
00:53:03,260 --> 00:53:09,819
then Cleveland did. Cleveland did that year that Michael Strahan got the record. It's true. Yeah
535
00:53:09,820 --> 00:53:15,619
it's true. Brett Favre did go down like a sack of potatoes for Strahan. And that that to me is kind
536
00:53:15,620 --> 00:53:20,259
of bush league two guys. These are big records. Like the sack record is not one to be taken
537
00:53:20,260 --> 00:53:27,219
lightly. You don't just give that guy a sack. That's garbage. But it was great to
538
00:53:27,220 --> 00:53:32,059
see the the Browns do Cleveland Brown things and wait for him to get the record and then trade him,
539
00:53:32,060 --> 00:53:36,699
because that's like, why? Why wouldn't you do that? Right? Like, he's proven himself. Now we can get rid
540
00:53:36,739 --> 00:53:42,899
of him and go on to continue losing all the time. Um, just my take on the Browns, guys. Jeff, I'm
541
00:53:42,899 --> 00:53:49,769
coming to you next, man. Um, what rule would you change? So mine's not going to be quite
542
00:53:49,810 --> 00:53:56,688
different. Not a lot different than yours, really. The whole. Tackling
543
00:53:56,689 --> 00:54:03,289
of a quarterback. And you can't have your body land on top of them. You got to have some kind of
544
00:54:03,290 --> 00:54:09,729
action of like you're trying to roll off of them as you're tackling them, like you can't when you
545
00:54:09,729 --> 00:54:16,530
go to tackle them. You can't land like have your whole body weight on top of them. It's
546
00:54:16,530 --> 00:54:23,529
like what? Like like, say, put a flag on them, man. And it's just it's like. And it's it. A lot
547
00:54:23,529 --> 00:54:28,089
of quarterbacks want to be hit. To be honest with you, I bet you if you'd ask every quarterback in
548
00:54:28,090 --> 00:54:34,728
the league um, I know Joe Flacco mentioned it in some of the videos I've watched that
549
00:54:34,729 --> 00:54:40,969
they've they've they need to get hit to feel like they're in the game. Yeah. Exactly. Exactly. You know,
550
00:54:41,010 --> 00:54:45,169
I think that for some of these quarterbacks, we ought to get them one of those motorcycle, uh, air
551
00:54:45,209 --> 00:54:49,850
airbag suits. If you're that worried about him hitting the ground with a big guy on him, get him
552
00:54:49,850 --> 00:54:54,490
one of those puffy jackets that'll puff up with. They're the minute that they feel contact. Because
553
00:54:54,490 --> 00:55:01,049
how are you supposed to control your body as a 300 pound man running a 4 or 540 and making
554
00:55:01,049 --> 00:55:05,329
contact with somebody, and now you've got to practice ballet so that you don't land on him. I
555
00:55:05,330 --> 00:55:11,369
don't understand it. Well, people like, uh,
556
00:55:12,530 --> 00:55:16,850
back in the day, they thought of them. Guys would never make it in the NFL. So they lose all their
557
00:55:16,850 --> 00:55:23,409
money for all the fine. Yeah. Imagine a Lawrence Taylor then in the NFL today. Oh, man. Or Kevin
558
00:55:23,409 --> 00:55:29,529
Greene is another guy I think of in the NFL today. Like you Bill Romanowski. You think you think a
559
00:55:29,530 --> 00:55:35,769
flag's gonna stop that guy? He'll break your face mask. I mean, he doesn't care. Uh, yeah. Good stuff
560
00:55:35,770 --> 00:55:41,609
there, man. What I'm getting is impersonating crap. Yeah. I mean, what I'm getting here, fellas, is that
561
00:55:41,610 --> 00:55:45,999
we're a group of guys that would really like to see some quarterbacks that aren't ours. Take a few
562
00:55:46,040 --> 00:55:52,759
hits and I get that. That's what football's all about. Here. Here's what happened when football
563
00:55:52,800 --> 00:55:59,679
became a business and it became a monster industry with money. And all of a sudden became,
564
00:56:00,719 --> 00:56:05,919
I don't know, it's more entertainment than it is, which I know. I kid if they say it's entertainment,
565
00:56:05,919 --> 00:56:11,480
but it's it's almost like it's a scripted thing, you know, like, hey, let's just go get a bunch of
566
00:56:11,480 --> 00:56:18,159
actors and act like we're playing football back in the day, man. Whenever I, whenever I was a
567
00:56:18,199 --> 00:56:23,320
young kid growing up watching, you know, Ronnie locked on somebody going across the middle, he's
568
00:56:23,320 --> 00:56:30,239
going to tattoo him. Yeah. You know, he. Nobody was running across the middle unless they
569
00:56:30,239 --> 00:56:36,159
were one tough son of a gun, you know what I mean? I do, I do. Ronnie Lott had a finger amputated
570
00:56:36,159 --> 00:56:41,399
mid-game so that he could go out and continue playing back in the 80s. That's how they used to
571
00:56:41,439 --> 00:56:48,109
do it. He has one less knuckle. The tough guy? Yeah, he has one less. He lost the last knuckle on, I
572
00:56:48,110 --> 00:56:53,709
believe his ring finger. Because it was. It was like at 90 degrees. And they said, we can't get it
573
00:56:53,710 --> 00:56:59,469
set and get you back out there. It won't happen. And he said cut it off and went back out and
574
00:56:59,470 --> 00:57:05,350
finished the game. That's that's 1980s gridiron for you. Um, uh, Gary, we gotta go to you here. We're
575
00:57:05,350 --> 00:57:10,549
kind of getting short on time here, but you got plenty of time to give us your rule change. So far,
576
00:57:10,550 --> 00:57:14,829
pretty much everything's had to do with the quarterbacks. Um, I'm interested to see where
577
00:57:14,830 --> 00:57:20,109
you're going with it. Gary, what are you changing? If given the opportunity, it's on the quarterback.
578
00:57:20,149 --> 00:57:27,149
Yep. And? And here's my thing. Like, the quarterback throws the ball and the defender's on a
579
00:57:27,189 --> 00:57:34,030
D-line full speed coming at him. There are two steps. Two steps to break the break away,
580
00:57:34,309 --> 00:57:41,148
to disengage. There is no way a 300 pounder running at full speed is going to break away
581
00:57:41,350 --> 00:57:47,939
and disengage from the quarterback and do that and the whole bullcrap of a
582
00:57:47,939 --> 00:57:52,698
quarterback. Quote unquote, getting themselves up and sliding.
583
00:57:54,980 --> 00:58:01,739
No other player gets that luxury. It's any other player that has. The football is not down
584
00:58:01,740 --> 00:58:08,459
until they're down by. Contact with a defender so they can slide away from the hit.
585
00:58:08,500 --> 00:58:15,378
Just knock up and keep running. Yep yep. And that's a load of baloney that the quarterback
586
00:58:15,379 --> 00:58:22,299
gets special treatment. They can lie. They quote unquote give themselves up. And if a if a defender
587
00:58:22,299 --> 00:58:28,778
touches them it's considered unnecessary roughness 15 yards and an automatic first down.
588
00:58:28,899 --> 00:58:33,459
And that's a load of baloney. Yeah. These quarterbacks are just too soft these days man. You
589
00:58:33,459 --> 00:58:38,899
know what. I think it was Jeff. You mentioned uh Joe Flacco talking about hey I want to get hit. It
590
00:58:38,899 --> 00:58:44,049
helps me feel like I'm in the game. I'll tell you one time he didn't want that is when Kiko Alonso
591
00:58:44,050 --> 00:58:49,209
from the Dolphins hit him mid slide. Uh, I don't know if you guys remember that, but it bounced his
592
00:58:49,209 --> 00:58:54,089
head off the turf so hard that he started doing sign language. Uh, while laying there. Knocked his
593
00:58:54,090 --> 00:58:58,850
helmet off, of course. Started a whole brawl. But that's that's what they're trying to keep out of
594
00:58:58,850 --> 00:59:03,889
the game. But, uh, Gary, if you had your way, that slide wouldn't even exist. Those guys could either
595
00:59:03,889 --> 00:59:08,889
dive forward and take the contact, or they can get hit like the rest of them. Is that what you're
596
00:59:08,889 --> 00:59:15,689
saying? Exactly. Gotcha. On the pads, just like every other player, they should be
597
00:59:15,690 --> 00:59:20,250
getting hit just like any other player. Yeah, and. And while we're on the subject, get rid of
598
00:59:20,250 --> 00:59:25,930
roughing the kicker in every single aspect. The kicker is just full. He's full. Go on him whenever.
599
00:59:25,930 --> 00:59:32,889
It doesn't matter if he's kicked it or not. Hit him. Um. Maybe not the best idea.
600
00:59:32,929 --> 00:59:38,049
Maybe a little tongue in cheek there, fellas. Just for fun. But, guys, this has been great. One thing
601
00:59:38,050 --> 00:59:42,479
I've learned about us is we think quarterbacks are too soft collectively. That's something we can
602
00:59:42,479 --> 00:59:47,319
all agree with here today. But this has been awesome. Fellas, I want to leave some time for your
603
00:59:47,320 --> 00:59:52,319
final thoughts. As always, final thoughts can be anything we left on the table. Uh, anything you
604
00:59:52,320 --> 00:59:56,758
didn't get to say that you wanted to. Or of course, you can throw in some shout outs here if you want
605
00:59:56,759 --> 01:00:02,759
to shout out family members, friends, uh, coworkers. The floor is yours. Guys, I want to thank you all
606
01:00:02,760 --> 01:00:08,639
for joining me here on our football themed episode. This is always one of my favorites and
607
01:00:08,639 --> 01:00:15,360
this one is no exception. Uh, great time with you guys. Mike short. Uh, happy early birthday to you. Uh,
608
01:00:15,360 --> 01:00:20,319
thank you so much for wishing it to me as well. As we set off the top, you and I are birthday buddies.
609
01:00:20,519 --> 01:00:25,840
Uh, September 6th is when Mike will be celebrating, and I'll be celebrating as well. Final thoughts
610
01:00:25,840 --> 01:00:31,679
from you, Mike. Uh, before we let you go today. And thanks for being here, my friend. Yes, sir. And thank
611
01:00:31,679 --> 01:00:38,668
you, Marcus, for having us. Thanks, fellas, for, uh, good. A good hour here. It's been fun. Um, my
612
01:00:38,669 --> 01:00:44,429
shout out, I'm going to I'm going to not mention bulk transit like everybody does every week. But I
613
01:00:44,429 --> 01:00:50,589
would like to shout out to my wife because, uh, she's my best friend, of course. And every Sunday,
614
01:00:50,589 --> 01:00:55,949
especially when the Browns play the Bengals, she organizes. And we have a lot of kids. We have nine,
615
01:00:55,990 --> 01:01:02,750
ten grandkids, husbands, boyfriends, and she organizes a football party every time they play.
616
01:01:02,789 --> 01:01:09,469
So shout out to her. Uh, and it's wonderful. And and anyway, I don't want to get
617
01:01:09,470 --> 01:01:15,869
emotional, but she's she's my best friend. Shout out to you, Carrie. Hey, great idea there. Great idea.
618
01:01:15,909 --> 01:01:20,669
Go for it. Mike. We appreciate it, man. I'm sorry. I thought you had more to go there. And I do want to
619
01:01:20,670 --> 01:01:25,669
say, you know, there's there's something in business that they say all the time. It's a it's a
620
01:01:25,670 --> 01:01:30,629
very common adage. You can't go broke making a profit. You can't get in the doghouse shouting out
621
01:01:30,629 --> 01:01:36,109
your wife on this podcast, man. So good on you there. Uh, good on you for sure. We appreciate the
622
01:01:36,109 --> 01:01:40,819
time, Mike. Uh, Jeff Linne heading to you next for your final thoughts here today. We really
623
01:01:40,819 --> 01:01:45,899
appreciate the time. And of course all of you guys welcome back anytime. But Jeff, let's get your
624
01:01:45,899 --> 01:01:52,019
final thoughts before we let you go. I feel like I need to start doing my hoo hoo hoo. They think I'm
625
01:01:52,020 --> 01:01:57,860
going to beat them B or or hang on Sloopy. No, I better not. No. Listen.
626
01:02:01,700 --> 01:02:08,379
I, I honestly, I'm, I'm going to shout you out, Marcus, because I think you do an awesome job. I
627
01:02:08,379 --> 01:02:14,659
listen to all the podcast and, uh, I think it's doing exactly what the company
628
01:02:14,740 --> 01:02:21,418
intended it to do. Um, we used to get, uh, every quarter, these newsletters and everything,
629
01:02:21,940 --> 01:02:28,699
and, uh, they, they replaced that with this, uh, podcast. And it's it's nice to
630
01:02:28,699 --> 01:02:35,259
hear other drivers out here with all the different topics that come along. I just would
631
01:02:35,259 --> 01:02:41,969
encourage more to get involved. I you know, I just would like to hear my, my, my, uh,
632
01:02:41,969 --> 01:02:47,089
cohorts out here and see what they got going on in life and what, what intrigues them the most. I
633
01:02:47,089 --> 01:02:53,969
enjoy listening to them, and I feel like you do a great job of guiding and asking,
634
01:02:53,970 --> 01:03:00,850
and just the program runs real smooth, and I think you all do a real, real job of that. And, uh,
635
01:03:00,850 --> 01:03:07,689
I'm going to leave you with. All right, I hope I
636
01:03:07,730 --> 01:03:11,810
gave you a chance because I've stepped on you every other time you've tried to do it. So I just
637
01:03:11,810 --> 01:03:16,529
wanted to let you get one in. Jeff, since you said such nice things about us here at the podcast. But
638
01:03:16,529 --> 01:03:23,049
that's the only one, okay, that's the only one. And and, Jeff, we greatly
639
01:03:23,049 --> 01:03:27,489
appreciate it, man. We really appreciate you listening. Every single week. Everybody out there
640
01:03:27,490 --> 01:03:33,249
that clicks uh, download or listens at the website every week. And I will remind everybody, I always
641
01:03:33,249 --> 01:03:37,919
have to say this when somebody gives us some flowers here on the show, I am merely just the
642
01:03:37,920 --> 01:03:43,279
face of it. We got a whole team working behind this podcast that does a phenomenal job for us
643
01:03:43,280 --> 01:03:49,079
every single week. Uh, so I'm going to extend your shout out to Jessica and Mike and Ari and Lewry
644
01:03:49,080 --> 01:03:54,439
and Tyler and Hannah and everybody else. If I didn't mention your name, Hayley is another one
645
01:03:54,440 --> 01:03:59,239
that'll help us out on here. Uh, we greatly appreciate that, Jeff, and thanks for making some
646
01:03:59,240 --> 01:04:05,158
time to, uh, to tell us about it, because it's for you guys. So, uh, that's exactly what I'm hoping to
647
01:04:05,159 --> 01:04:10,198
hear. And, uh, I'll just advise you tell a friend, man, because we want to get more drivers on here
648
01:04:10,199 --> 01:04:17,120
for sure. Absolutely. Thanks, Jeff. We appreciate the time. Gary Cress, final thoughts from
649
01:04:17,120 --> 01:04:23,879
you before we let you go, man, thank you for joining us today on our football episode. Oh, not a
650
01:04:23,879 --> 01:04:30,520
problem. It was fun. Uh, definitely. I gotta go with Jeff on. Um, give you a shout
651
01:04:30,560 --> 01:04:37,509
out the the podcasts every week are great. I love listening to what other people
652
01:04:37,509 --> 01:04:43,389
got going on and hearing what some of the terminal managers have to say, and
653
01:04:45,189 --> 01:04:52,189
it's just it's fun to listen to every Wednesday, and it definitely helps when it
654
01:04:52,190 --> 01:04:59,149
helps. The drag of Wednesday, uh, move on a little bit quicker to get me
655
01:04:59,149 --> 01:05:06,149
into that downhill side of the week. So. Well thanks, Gary. Really appreciate it, man. And
656
01:05:06,149 --> 01:05:12,709
then I gotta throw that twice a year during football season. My wife and I are bitter
657
01:05:12,710 --> 01:05:19,550
enemies, so I gotta say, Emily, I love you. Except for the two weeks
658
01:05:19,550 --> 01:05:26,509
that Steelers play the Browns. Hey, you give me a
659
01:05:26,509 --> 01:05:32,019
call after, uh, we record here. If you think it's a good idea for me to bleep the very last part of
660
01:05:32,019 --> 01:05:36,060
your statement out there. Gary, I'm going to leave that up to you, okay? You're going to have to be
661
01:05:36,060 --> 01:05:41,139
the judge of that one. Uh, great job shouting out your wife. But she might have some thoughts on
662
01:05:41,179 --> 01:05:47,939
that, uh, little Brown Steelers comment there. Oh, she already knows it. So it's all good.
663
01:05:47,979 --> 01:05:54,699
All right fellas, there, there. In those two weeks, we, uh, we knock heads a little bit. I get it.
664
01:05:54,899 --> 01:06:00,779
It's all in good fun. All in good fun, man. Well, Gary, uh, Jeff and Mike, thank you all so much for
665
01:06:00,779 --> 01:06:06,458
being here today. You guys be safe out there. And remember, we're going to call you back in probably
666
01:06:06,459 --> 01:06:12,179
January to talk a little bit about our predictions that we made. So, uh, get ready for that
667
01:06:12,179 --> 01:06:17,938
one. Get ready to defend it because we all know it never goes like you think it's going to go, fellas.
668
01:06:18,020 --> 01:06:23,499
Uh, happy football season to you guys. We'll get you back in here soon. All right? Sounds good.
669
01:06:24,060 --> 01:06:26,259
Thanks. Thanks, guys.
670
01:06:34,059 --> 01:06:40,019
Well, exactly like I expected. That conversation ran long and I'm glad that it did. That was a lot
671
01:06:40,060 --> 01:06:45,699
of fun. Big thanks to Mike Short, Jeff Linne, and Gary Cress for coming in here and laying it all
672
01:06:45,699 --> 01:06:50,859
on the line. You know, there's football fans, people that just like to watch and they don't have much
673
01:06:50,860 --> 01:06:55,819
of an allegiance. And then there's what allegiance? And then there's what I like to call diehard fans
674
01:06:55,819 --> 01:07:02,619
and diehard fans like myself, like Mike, like Jeff, like Gary. Uh, we have some thoughts and we would
675
01:07:02,620 --> 01:07:07,539
like to share them with you. We don't necessarily need your thoughts because we know we're right
676
01:07:07,539 --> 01:07:14,299
about what we're saying. Uh, otherwise fan wouldn't be short for fanatic. Uh, great stuff from the guys,
677
01:07:14,340 --> 01:07:17,859
though. I love it when people come onto the show and they're willing to play ball and have a
678
01:07:17,860 --> 01:07:23,499
little bit of fun. Um, you know, have a take here. Uh, every single one of those guys planted their flag,
679
01:07:23,499 --> 01:07:29,019
made some predictions. Maybe not the most bold with the teams that we're talking about, but bold
680
01:07:29,050 --> 01:07:34,969
indeed. I mean. Yeah. One guy say he had the Bengals in the Super Bowl against the LA Rams which
681
01:07:34,969 --> 01:07:39,249
listen I can buy the Bengals in the Super Bowl. It's this LA Rams garbage that I can't wrap my
682
01:07:39,249 --> 01:07:43,889
head around. If any team from the from the NFC West is going to make the Super Bowl it's going
683
01:07:43,889 --> 01:07:49,649
to be the 40 Niners. But I digress. Uh, we've got national championship predictions for the Ohio
684
01:07:49,650 --> 01:07:56,009
State Buckeyes. Times two. Uh, we've got an Oregon national title prediction from your boy here. We
685
01:07:56,009 --> 01:08:01,409
got a Dante Moore Heisman prediction. I laid that one on the line. We're going to come back around
686
01:08:01,410 --> 01:08:05,969
in January I think is probably when it's going to fall once the Super Bowl has been played. So it
687
01:08:05,970 --> 01:08:11,248
might might not even be until February. Uh, but we'll get these guys back in here and we'll talk
688
01:08:11,249 --> 01:08:16,809
to them about, hey, how are you feeling now after you came on our football episode, planted your
689
01:08:16,810 --> 01:08:22,729
flag and then watched it all fall apart because that's what happens, right? It's it's a lot fewer
690
01:08:22,730 --> 01:08:27,929
and more far between that you plant your flag. And that prediction comes true in football. That's why
691
01:08:27,930 --> 01:08:33,879
they say we don't just roll the helmets out on the field. We gotta play the game. And what a
692
01:08:33,879 --> 01:08:40,359
beautiful game it is. Um, you know, all the love to Tom Brady. And that guy got a lot of run here on
693
01:08:40,359 --> 01:08:44,560
the show today, but I don't think it was because people liked him. And that's what football does
694
01:08:44,560 --> 01:08:50,240
for you. You will talk about the the guys, the teams, the plays, the things that made you so upset
695
01:08:50,279 --> 01:08:55,079
almost more than you'll talk about the stuff that you really enjoyed watching. And that's why I love
696
01:08:55,079 --> 01:09:01,680
it. I once again, just hats off to all those guys, Mike, Gary and Jeff for coming on the show today.
697
01:09:01,680 --> 01:09:07,319
Uh, greatly appreciate my time with them. And, and we'll get them back in here to, um, to take it on
698
01:09:07,320 --> 01:09:14,240
the chin or to celebrate after the season's all wrapped up. Uh, podcast.com is the website. Want
699
01:09:14,240 --> 01:09:19,918
to remind you that every single Wednesday at 5 a.m. local time, we've got a new hour of content
700
01:09:19,919 --> 01:09:25,319
for you. Sometimes we're talking safety, sometimes we're talking the job in general, and other times
701
01:09:25,319 --> 01:09:30,189
we're just doing stuff like this. We're talking football. We're enjoying it. I know there's a lot
702
01:09:30,190 --> 01:09:35,229
of Ohio State Buckeye fans listening to this show, and I appreciate you guys playing ball with me.
703
01:09:35,430 --> 01:09:41,389
It's got to be a little bit weird to have the company based there in Plain City and all these
704
01:09:41,430 --> 01:09:46,829
Ohio State fans, and the one guy that you get lucky enough to host your podcast happens to hail
705
01:09:46,830 --> 01:09:53,669
from Eugene, Oregon, and is a Oregon alumni who gets season tickets and tailgates for every home
706
01:09:53,669 --> 01:09:59,029
Oregon football game. Uh, that's just I feel like I'm kind of the fly that invaded their picnic, if
707
01:09:59,029 --> 01:10:02,869
I'm going to be honest with you. It's like, man, we were all in agreement until this Oregon duck
708
01:10:02,869 --> 01:10:08,750
showed up and he won't stop quacking. And, uh, I if I can elicit those feelings out of you, it means
709
01:10:08,750 --> 01:10:14,669
I'm doing my job here today. So thank you all so much, uh, for showing up and and playing ball with
710
01:10:14,669 --> 01:10:21,469
us here. If you want to be on this podcast, podcast, dot coms the website, send me an email. Uh,

01:10:26,580 --> 01:10:31,699

prize and give it away to you guys that are listening to this podcast, and you will be able to

belong. My apologies. But, uh, and my my thanks for being here with us today. I hope you had as much

720
01:11:09,419 --> 01:11:14,939

a fisherman, maybe, uh, maybe you just do some camping and some hiking and exploring, foraging,
722
01:11:21,380 --> 01:11:26,529
whatever it is that you do, if you want to talk about it, you send me an email. We'll get an
723
01:11:26,529 --> 01:11:31,849
episode going. I know we got a lot of hunters out there that are listening to this show right now.
724
01:11:31,850 --> 01:11:38,728
And your boys, 102. Okay. Deer. Elk. Ducks. Geese I do it. So if you want to talk about it.

01:11:38,729 --> 01:11:43,568
Love to have you on to talk about it. All you got to do is send me an email once again. Podcast.bulktransit.com
